General Announcements  

Students & Staff - Please note:  Bell Schedule Change - Week of April 23-April 27 due to WASC Visit.  See NMHS for bell schedules

Seniors, the Alumni Scholarship applications are due today by 3:00 p.m. Ms. Cranon will NOT accept any incomplete applications. Students MUST have transcripts attached at the time that they submit their applications. Thank you.

All girls interested in playing basketball next season at Newark Memorial are welcome and encouraged to attend Open Gym Basketball on Wednesday nights during April and May, 6:00 – 8:00 pm, in the Old Gym.  See Coach Reina or Coach Jorgens for more information.

Preregistration for AP Exams will take place in the theater, next Monday and Tuesday, during 3rd and 4th period.  Last names A-L will go on Monday and last names M-Z will go on Tuesday.

If you registered to be a part of the 2019 yearbook staff, please make a PAWS appointment this week with Ms. Canales.

Ohlone will be giving a presentation on MCA courses that are offered on their campus. The presentation will be this Wednesday during lunch in the College and Career Center.

NMHS Drama presents Beauty and the Beast! Come to see your favorite Disney movie on the stage! The 27th at 7:00pm, the 28th at 7:00 pm, and the 29th at 2:00 pm. Students are $10, adults are $15, and children 12 and under are $10. 

 

Schilling Elementary School needs Cabin Counselors for their science camp! If you are interested, juniors and seniors, come and get an application ASAP in the Activities Office. The dates you must be available are May 15-May 18, 2018. This is during AP Exams. See Mrs. Charron today.

 

On Sunday, May 6th, from 2:00-5:00 p.m., in the Commons and in the Theatre, NMHS will feature the artwork and performances from students in Ceramics, Art, Media Arts, Painting, Photography, MCA, Video, Theatre, Band, and Choir. There will be an awards ceremony from 4:00-4:30 p.m. to celebrate the artistic accomplishments of your student.

 

Bring the family and enjoy the art displays, performances, and kid-friendly activities such as bubble making and face painting. There will be demonstrations on the pottery wheel and as well as delicious refreshments prepared by our culinary students for sale. We hope to see you there!

Check the schedule posted on the Commons & Library windows & outside the Career Center.

Look for your Period 3 teacher to know where and when you test.

Link Leader Interviews: Sign up outside the Activities Office in the Commons! Interviews will continue through April 20th.

If you'd like to enter the Cougar ticket raffle, please place your Cougar tickets in the raffle bin located in the College and Career Center, to the left of the Library door. Raffle winners will be announced every other Friday.  The bin will be emptied after every raffle in order to have a new batch of tickets to choose from every week. We’ll have different prizes throughout the year, including the possibility of winning a yearbook and tickets to school events.  Remember to wear your Cougar blue and gold every Friday

The Library is closed for PAWS this week.

College and Career Center
There will be a job fair for students at the Alameda County Job Fair on April 28th. Students that may interested can pick up a flyer in the CCC and/or apply online at alamedacountyfair.com

 

Work Permits: Students inquiring about obtaining a work permit will only be available for pick up or drop off during brunch, lunch, or after school. No work permits may be processed during class time.

 

Lindsey Caravelli has a wedding business at Ardenwood Farms in Fremont (in our own back yard!).  She is looking to hire catering staff for the 2018 season.  If you are a junior or senior interested in this position, please go to the college and career center for more information.

The Kaiser Permanente African American Professional Association (KPAAPA) Scholarship Program is now accepting applications from high school students who are scheduled to graduate in spring 2018. Scholarships are also available for nursing and medical students attending schools in Northern California. KPAAPA provides scholarships to students who demonstrate academic achievement, commitment to community service, and leadership potential

In the last five years, KPAAPA has awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships. In 2018, KPAAPA has eight scholarships available.
Online applications are available 
at this website, and must be submitted by April 18, 2018. Winners will be notified in June 2018.

Scholarship funds will be distributed in August 2018 to the college, university, trade, or technical school the winners will attend in the fall.

The League of Volunteers Scholarships are now available in the College and Career Center. There are 3 different scholarships that they are offering so please stop by and see what scholarship applies to you!

We have Computers for students to use or to print out work (NOT DURING CLASS) Students can obtain Work Permits, Job information, College information, and ROP information (please do not send students during class) Students can also pick up Volunteer forms and Recommendation letters here

Cal Poly is presenting the 11th annual Engineering Possibilities in College (EPIC) fun summer residential camp for students that are currently 6th-11th grade. Campers will explore the world of engineering in hands-on labs at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. This year's program offers four residential sessions

-July 8-13 (middle school grades 6-8)

-July 15-20 (high school grades 9-11)

-July 22-27 (high school grades 9-11)

-July 29-August 3 (high school 9-11)

The 25th Annual Newark Memorial car show & Food Faire will be in the quad at lunch on Friday, April 20th. Anyone is allowed to bring and show off their vehicle. See Cole or Dean Gordon in the Quad for info.

MORE HONORS FOR HAYLEE NELSON — 

Congrats to Senior Haylee Nelson on being named to the SF Chronicle All-Metro Girls Basketball Third Team for the 2017-2018 season and being named to the Bay Area News Groups All-Bay Area Girls Basketball Second Team.

Haylee led the Cougars to an overall record of 24-6 and 12-2 in the MVAL, and was named the MVAL Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year by the leagues coaches. She helped the team reach the NCS D2 semifinals for the second straight season, and advance to NorCals for the third straight year.

She had a personal-best 44 points and 32 rebounds in a 71-68 overtime win over Moreau Catholic in January. Haylee led the team in scoring, averaging 23.6 points per game. She finished with 2,018 career points.

 

MORE WRESTLING SUCCESS FOR EMMILY PATNEAUD — 

Congrats to sophomore Emily Patneaud who wrestled in the USMC National Folk Style Championships in Oklahoma City. She took 4th place in the Cadet Division, and 3rd place in the Senior Division. Emily wrestled for the California State Team that captured First Place in the competition.

 

Senior Student-Athlete College Night—Any senior student-athletes who are going to compete in athletics at the collegiate level (college team, club, intramural, etc.), please see Coach K ASAP.
